SAAS IN THE CITY
For Seattle Academy of Arts & Sciences’s annual “SAAS in the City” fundraising event, I created a richly layered theme that celebrated the school’s “Culture of Performance” across all disciplines—Academics, Arts, Service, and Sports. Dancing symbols interlaced with the Seattle skyline provided a lyrical backdrop for an evening of vibrant performances, inspirational stories, and dynamic multi-media presentations.
The full scope of my work on this project included creation of the event theme brand and visual elements, all printed communications, digital material for social media, menus, wall-to-wall projections and slideshows, video monitor display graphics synched with a highly choreographed program and performances, and collaboration with a team of dedicated parent volunteers to carry the theme throughout environmental decorations, table settings and live auction displays.

HIDDEN VALLEY RANCH
An evolutionary redesign of America’s most popular Ranch dressing. Refreshed illustrations of the famed Hidden Valley with flavorful ingredients and typography in the foreground were arranged in a configuration designed to create a billboard effect. The result was a strong, consistent shelf presence which extended successfully to multiple bottle shapes, sizes and flavors.

THE DISNEY INSTITUTE
At the original Disney Institute resort, one could fine-tune their skills in many creative disciplines while learning from the magical story telling masters at Disney World. By building an extensive library of icons to represent all the workshop offerings, we could design a well-branded family of products which included gift store items, souvenirs and printed material.

TEJAVA
An enduring brand that symbolizes the smooth yet bold flavor of a black tea from the Indonesian island of Java. The logo and the label design for Tejava, “Tea from Java” has evolved only slightly from when I worked on the design more than 20 years ago, and originally came with a little booklet I created to tell the story of the tea’s exotic origins. |

SEATTLE ACADEMY
OF ARTS AND SCIENCES Celebrating a “Culture of Performance” the original SAAS brand was vibrant and dynamic, expressed through colorful brush strokes and bold typography. To acknowledge and share every student’s unique story, all media featured prolific photographic content alongside the school’s painterly backdrop. With plans to open a new middle school building in 2018, SAAS shifted their original brand away from painterly elements (which suggested a heavy arts focus) to emphasizing use of their signature Cardinal Red with geometric shapes, so as to emulate the architectural features of the new building and herald a growing, unified campus. I created a logo of equal positive and negative space that aligned with the new direction and worked well with the design of the new website. This selection of work shows the progression of how I leveraged the school’s original painterly brand assets in earlier materials and later evolved towards bold red gradations and angles. Media communications were strategically released alongside planning, construction, and opening of the new building. |
For annual events such as graduations, ceremonies, fundraisers, campaigns, open houses, new building inaugurations and more, my scope of work included creating new event brands, designing, producing, and strategizing the release of print and digital media, creating slideshows and videos choreographed to live performances, and managing teams of volunteers.
